learning centers and a circle time area for group play and interaction.
The shelves are filled with a variety of books, toys and materials that
will foster learning to the eager child. |

are LEARNING CENTERS? |
|

- Small areas within the
classroom where students work alone or interact with others, using
instructional materials to explore one or more subject areas.
- A place where a variety of
activities introduce, reinforce, and/or extend learning, often
without assistance of the classroom teacher.

benefits can centers add to your classroom?

Centers
can be time for students to practice the skills that were taught in
class through activities that encompass a variety of learning styles.
Centers should provide opportunities to reinforce concepts for children
who do not always learn best through traditional teaching methods or who
needs hands-on experiences. |

An ACTIVE
SPOT in the classroom that involves activities and materials to
develop strong cooperative social skills, problem solving
skills, language skills and ability to coordinate actions with
peers enabling them to interact and express themselves through
different kinds of role play. |

An area
where children can explore books (the books read in the class as
well as other books). Through reading, children can try out
roles different from their own, learn about other cultures, and
develop concern for others. This area provides children an
opportunity to increase vocabulary and understand sequence.
Reading and listening to stories also helps children's own
storytelling abilities and imaginations. |

teacher-facilitated discussions and activities. This is the area
wherein the children come together and talk about different

Table Top Play,
a fun and creative approach that enhances practices in
logical thinking and dexterity manipulation for the
improvement of fine motor skills which will introduce
them to self-help readiness and independence.
Puzzles, Beading, Lacing, and Inch-blocks are quite
popular in this area. |

SCIENCE AND MATH CENTER
|
|
| Children
learn to work cooperatively with one another in the Science and Math
Center. This center helps children learn to measure, count, and classify
items wherein they can feel a great sense of personal achievements. This
center helps children learn to measure, count, and classify items and
being one with nature (e.g., from planting seeds and watching them grow
or learning to use the computer). |

BLOCK CENTER
|
|
In the
Floor Play area, children play with quality blocks, toys, games,
manipulatives, puzzles, as well as simple cause-and-effect toys designed
for children.
This area encourages social interaction among children. Children learn
to work cooperatively and take turns when they play games. |
